Week of March 1-5: Parent-Teacher Conferences & Picture Day
This week we will be holding brief Parent-Teacher Conferences on Zoom. Please click the link to sign up for a 10 minute meeting in my Zoom room. The school announced that we will hold conferences on Tuesday and Thursday of this week but Kindergarten families will be meeting on Wednesday, March 3 and Thursday, March 4.
Sign Up for Parent-Teacher Conferences
Because of conferences, there will be NO SMALL GROUP INTERVENTIONS on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays (for the students who stay past 1:30PM). All students will need to be picked up from school by 1:30pm on these days.
Picture Day is also happening this week. Flyers have been sent home with the in-person students and have been emailed to everyone from the school. In-person students will take their picture on March 2nd and all online students can come in to take their picture on March 3rd. We will have any in-person student that missed March 2nd to take theirs on March 3rd. We will not have a retake day. We need to get pictures for our yearbook this year as soon as possible.
This is the flyer for English and Spanish:

January 18-22: Welcome to In-Person Learning!
Monday, January 18: Martin Luther King Jr. Day (NO SCHOOL)
Tuesday, January 19: FIRST DAY OF IN-PERSON LEARNING
Students may begin arriving at 8:00am. Please bring your Kindergartener to the gate on the south side of the building. Look for Kumu Irene or Kumu LaRee. We will have yellow umbrellas to help you find where to go. We are trying to limit the amount of people inside of the building so you may bring your child to the area inside of the gate but not into the classroom.
For those who will stay online, please be patient with us during this first week as we make this transition together. Your child will need to be logged in from 8:30-1:30 on Monday-Thursday.
On Fridays I will be reserving that time for student appointments and small group teaching. I will invite your child this week if this is something that I believe will help them succeed. This is also the day that the teachers of the school will be meeting to communicate and plan.
Your child will not need to bring any supplies at this time. Please talk to them about wearing their mask. I would also suggest talking to them about the length of time they will be at school. This is an adjustment for everybody and these first few weeks will take some getting used to.

January 4-8: Happy New Year!
If you've been wondering about in-person learning and continued online learning, here are two videos we have made to help answer those questions. One is from me and the other is from our principal, Kumu Alaiasa. Please watch and listen to this information and then let us know if you have more questions.
*I said that the emails was sent out on Monday, January 5 but I meant Tuesday, January 5th. Today is Wednesday, January 6.

December 14-18: This Week in Kindergarten...
Since this is the last week before our Winter Break, we are reviewing the tools that will help us master reading and counting.
- Letter names and sounds
- Blending or "tapping out" the sounds of words. We need to practice hearing the sounds in words as we learn to read.
- Using tools to practice counting one-to-one
SIGN UP FOR MID-YEAR TESTING
We will be conducting our middle of year testing. I sent a survey out to you a couple of weeks ago and I decided to provide a sign up for you to have your child tested on their progress this school year. Please click on the SIGN UP! button to go to a sign up sheet. For Location, you will need to tell me if you are able to come to PHA for in-person testing or if you will need to do this online. Please note that if this is online, your child will need to be supervised in a quiet spot for the test which last no longer than 20 minutes.

November 16, 2020: This Week in Kindergarten...
Because I can't go into the school building, I've been trying to teach our Zoom class from home.Thank you for your patience this week as I've tried to sort out internet issues. I miss our kids and I hope to be better soon so I can go back to the school building and teach from there. I look forward to the day when we can one day learn together without Zoom. Stay healthy this week!
November 9, 2020: This Week in Kindergarten...
Sorry I've been late in posting this and the assignments on Class Dojo. I've been really sick this week but I appreciate seeing all of our students every morning. I'll be updating everything in the next couple of days. Thank you for your patience!

New Way to Send Student Work on Class Dojo
There are now 2 ways you can send student work: the way we've done it all year and a new way where I post the worksheet online and your child completes it on the device-no paper!
If you like the way you've been sending me work all year, this video shows you how you can still do that. If you want to have your kid complete the work on the computer/tablet, without the paper, just go to the assignments on Class Dojo and your child completes the work right there on the computer/tablet. Hopefully this all makes sense and it makes things a little easier for all of our families. |

October 15, 2020: Term 2 Announcements
I hope everyone is enjoying the Fall Break. We'll be back online on Tuesday, October 20. I've adjusted our schedule to make room for a new subject. This will be our ELA Module time (English Language Arts). In addition to the Skills Flex where we work on letter names and sounds, Module time will include stories and writing. All of these skills are essential for our kindergarteners plus I think that this new unit will be a lot of fun!
With that said, I've had to adjust the times that we meet. I know that change can be hard, especially in our remote learning situation but I know that our students are strong and that they will come out on top! Please see below for the time in which your child's group will be meeting. Remember that Fridays are for the whole class to come together. We do a lot of character education on Fridays plus I try to take turns and meet with the children one-on-one.

Some suggestions to help your child be successful for Zoom Crew:
I appreciate your understanding and help with these changes. If there is a problem or concern that you have, please reach out and we can talk about what will help your child succeed during this next school term.
WE'VE GOT THIS! LET'S GO VOYAGERS!!
Some suggestions to help your child be successful for Zoom Crew:
- Talk to your child about school and what it means to be a student
- Keep school supplies close by when we're on the Zoom call
- Make sure your child has eaten something and used the bathroom BEFORE the Zoom call
- Talk to your child about what they are learning every day. This will help them understand that what they do every day is important.

September 28, 2020
This is our last week before the Fall break. Be sure to encourage your children to keep working hard until the very end. We will have a special celebration meeting during Friday's Zoom class to celebrate the end of the first term of school. I will have a treat for them that can be picked up during lunch pick-up tomorrow at the school, 9am-1pm.
Have a great week!

September 21, 2020
Welcome to another week! Thank you for hanging in there and for being patient with us, your child's teachers. Please try to make sure your child is prepared each day for online learning. I know it can be hard but your child will have the most success if they have a set place in your home (or wherever you may be), to have their supplies ready and to set their device up in a way that they don't have to hold it during the class.
This week, I am trying something new: on Mondays and Wednesdays we will spend the session working on ELA/Skills Flex and on Tuesdays and Thursdays, we will work on Math. This will allow us to spend more time in each subject area which is something I hope will help the students be more successful.
Take a look at what we're learning this week and don't forget about the Aloha Friday dress up day. If parents dress up too, you and your child might win a prize! One of our very own kindergarteners won the school prize from a couple of weeks ago.
Have a great week and as always, let me know how I can help you!

I hope everyone is doing well and getting settled back into some normalcy-as normal as it can get, right? A few parents expressed that something was wrong with their kindles and that students were being disconnected from the Zoom meeting this morning. I will try to look into it but I wonder if this has something to do with losing electricity last week because of the windstorm. I'll let you know if and when I can find out if there is something we can do to fix this problem. Also, this week's Aloha Friday theme is in the flyer. We would love to see the parents join in and dress up too! Check it out and let me know if you have any questions this week!
September 8: Windy Day, Aloha Friday and Breakfast/Lunch Pick-up
Thank you for your continued patience as we sorted out today's windy weather situation. Lesson video for the day is posted and there is a possibility that this may happen again tomorrow, depending on everybody's situation with accessing power and internet (Kumu Irene included)! This week's Aloha Friday theme is in the flyer and breakfast/lunch pick-up has been moved to THURSDAY.
August 31: Aloha Fridays and Breakfast/Lunch Pick-up
Something fun to add to your week! Each Friday (Aloha Friday that is!) we will have a fun theme where we can dress up. This week we will wear our school colors! If your child does not have an official Pacific Heritage shirt, that's okay! Just wear something that you feels represents our school or a shirt of any one of our school shirt colors-red, blue, dark green, gray, orange, or yellow

This is the letter that went home in the packets on August 12-13.
Dear Families,
We are so excited to get to know you this year in Kindergarten! We all know it is a year unlike any other but we are so happy that you have chosen to join us at Pacific Heritage Academy. This packet is full of great learning activities and we hope that it helps you as you begin your kindergarten journey. In this folder you will find:
- Your child’s UP TO DATE Information Sheet. This is VERY important and has everything you need to begin online learning.
- A coloring sheet
- Name-writing Worksheet

Happy Learning and Welcome to Kindergarten!

Parent Introduction Video 2020-2021
Here is the video that all parents are required to watch while their child is being assessed during testing week. This training will give you a ton of information about our school's plan during the COVID-19 pandemic. There are two things you must do in order to show that you have viewed this so be sure to complete those tasks. Let me know if you have any questions!
